In 1992, when Teen Empowerment started our first site in Boston’s South End, the city was awash in violence among young people. The courageous work of the youth we employed to confront the bloodshed played a pivotal role in creating the period that’s been dubbed “the Boston Miracle”— 29 months when no one under the age of 19 died as a consequence of violence.
