Park Square is pleased to announce the placement of Dr. Tom Schulz as Senior Director, Process Development at Platelet BioGenesis. Platelet BioGenesis is a pre-clinical stage cell therapy company that has invented the world’s only method of producing clinical-grade human platelets from induced pluripotent stem cells. The company is leveraging this novel technology to develop designer platelets that can carry medicines directly to the site of disease within the body.

Schulz joins the company as an expert in stem cell bioprocess scale-up. He most recently served as Director, Cell Process Development at ViaCyte, where he was responsible for discovering and developing advanced cell culture processes for manufacturing the company’s pancreatic endoderm cells. He also led the effort to create custom, scalable solutions for cell banking, expansion, suspension culture and differentiation. Schulz’ previous roles at ViaCyte include Director, Embryonic Stem Cell Technology and Scale Up from 2014-2017, Associate Director, Embryonic Stem Cell Technology and Scale Up from 2011-2013, Senior Scientist, hESC Biology from 2009-2010 and Group Leader, hESC Biology from 2004-2008. Schulz started his career in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at the University of Georgia.

Schulz received his Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology and his B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Biology from the University of Adelaide.
